Family Support and Advocacy

We all experience struggles and tensions in our families from time to time, yet we often feel like we're facing these problems alone. The Family Council staff can assure you that you are not alone because many of them have "been there."

Besides the Family Council staff, we contract with F.A.C.E.S. of Stark County to provide family advocates (who have also experienced times in their lives when they have had to reach out for help) to assist families in the WrapAround/CCO process and systems with their experiences, they can act as a friend, mentor or a guide when you need more than specific professional services. Whatever their title, their role is to help everyone in the community know that they are not alone - they have someone who can help.

The Family Council staff is available to all families who wish to link with needed services and supports. They are also available to agencies who wish to develop greater parental involvement, and to connect the families they serve to additional support services.

Advocates may support a person, a family or a cause, and their functions vary according to need. Their work is generally short-term, in order to resolve a conflict or issue, or to provide consultation in service planning or goal setting.

Of great importance is the fact that these advocates validate a family's problems, letting the family know their concerns are taken seriously and that they are not alone in solving them.
